(Helena, MT)

What is your experience with Forward Montana, or our sister organization Forward Montana Foundation, and why is our work important to you?

I first got involved with Forward Montana during my senior year of high school, when I was an intern during the 2017 legislature. I then worked a summer as a field captain in Helena registering voters, and in 2017 was named one of Forward Montana’s 25 under 25. This work is important to me because as a young person who is highly involved in politics, I want to create change in Montana and get other young folks involved.

Why are you interested in joining the Forward Montana Board?

The mentorship provided to me by Forward Montana help to develop my leadership and advocacy skills. I strongly believe that helping to create those opportunities for other young Montanans is key to building a future for our state that is progressive, inclusive, and creative. Serving on the board will help me give back to an organization and community whose mission and work I deeply admire.

What skills, characteristics, experience, or insight do you have that would be a valuable addition to the board?

I have a wide variety of experience working in politics and political advocacy, as a campaign staffer, community organizer, candidate, and political consultant. I am dedicated to making change, am an innovative problem solver, and a positive communicator. I strongly believe in Forward Montana’s mission of engaging young people, especially because those young people are my peers. I can bring the lived experience of young professionals just entering the workforce to the board. I am also fluent in Spanish, which I pursued because I think that being able to communicate with a wide variety of diverse constituencies is important to successful political engagement.

What experience do you have fundraising, and what is your comfort level with asking for money?

I have some experience fundraising for political candidates (including myself) and have sat for call time with several candidates as well. I’m very comfortable fundraising for a cause I believe in.

Being a board member requires a time commitment to meetings, phone calls, occasional events, etc. Will you be able to fulfill these time commitments? Does anything give you pause?

Yes, I will be able to fulfill them. No, I am not worried about doing so.

Good board members invest their time into Forward Montana, are ambassadors for the organization, are familiar with the work of the organization, and are responsive to other board members and staff. How will you go above and beyond being a good board member? How will you be a great board member?

I specifically moved back to Montana to serve my community and the state of Montana. I am deeply invested in Montana and working together to engage Montana’s young people in all aspects of politics. I am passionate about politics and know that I can be a strong ambassador and a committed and collaborative addition to the Forward Montana community.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I am very excited for this opportunity and look forward to the chance to serve my state alongside Forward Montana.
